1950 Washington Quarter Doubled Die Reverse FS-801 ANACS MS64 |

 |
This 1950 Doubled Die Reverse Washington Quarter has been graded MS64 by ANACS and is encapsulated in the older small white ANACS holder from many years ago. Of the smaller white ANACS holders, one of the earliest varieties was produced with a two-letter and four-digit serial number. The coin here has an unusual two-letter and three-digit serial number which is significantly more rare. Collectors of these early ANACS holders have identified the “XA” letter prefix as being reserved for submissions of coins that were graded at coin shows where ANACS was in attendance. Accordingly, it is possible this Washington Quarter was submitted at a major show where it was graded and then given this unusual serial number. This coin is the doubled die reverse variety which is designated as FS-801 in the Cherrypickers' Guide. The doubling is most evident on the eagle’s beak which is strongly doubled. The coin has nice original mint luster and just a few light marks are present. Some light toning is also noted, particularly on the obverse. The holder itself is in excellent condition, especially considering its age. A popular Washington Quarter variety in an unusual and rare early ANACS holder. |
