1881-S Morgan Dollar ANACS MS65/65 Photo Certificate in Capital Holder |

This is an 1881-S Morgan Silver Dollar which has been graded MS65/65 by ANACS. The coin was graded before ANACS encapsulated coins in plastic holders. Instead, ANACS issued photo certifications in which a photo of the coin was paired with a certification number and a grade. This certificate also indicates the size of the coin, the date graded and the owner it was registered to. This coin and its ANACS photo certificate are housed in a capital plastic holder that displays them both very nicely. Based on the virtually perfect condition of the photo certificate, I would guess the coin and the certificate were placed in this holder shortly after it was certified on May 21, 1984. The capital plastic holder is also in excellent condition as it comes with a purple cloth bag (not pictured) that protects it. The coin itself is a strong example for the grade with booming luster and slightly prooflike fields. The strike is very strong and there is just a touch of toning near the rims. Some light hairlines and just a few marks are found on each side, one of which on the left wing on the reverse is slightly larger and can be easily seen in the ANACS photo as well. That said, the coin is a terrific gem Morgan Dollar with a nearly perfectly preserved example of the ANACS photo certification. |
