1972 Franklin Mint Apollo 17 Gold and Silver Eyewitness Medals |

The 1972 Apollo 17 mission was the final mission of NASA’s Apollo program and the last mission in which men walked on the moon. To commemorate this mission, the Franklin Mint produced medals at the time called eyewitness medals. The silver versions and even the platinum versions of these medals can be found fairly often, but the gold versions are extremely scarce. It is likely that many of the original gold medals were melted and sold over the years with the increase in gold prices. The gold medal is actually a pendant that can be worn as jewelry and is made of 18 karat gold and is marked on the edge as such. The 18K gold medal weighs a total of 15.5 grams and comes in its original box of issue. Also included is a sterling silver version of the Apollo 17 Eyewitness medal which weighs a total of 25.6 grams. Both pieces are in excellent condition and exhibit amazing detail. |
