Nearly all collectors of U.S. coins know the 1909-S V.D.B. Lincoln Cent as one of the most popular key-date coins in all of numismatics and that it is highly ranked in the “100 Greatest U.S. Coins” reference. The wide availability of this coin, even in mint state grades, is somewhat offset by the extreme demand for this special coin. It is the lowest mintage business strike Lincoln Cent and had the lowest mintage of any small cent aside from the 1909-S Indian Head Cent and the 1856 Flying Eagle Cent. This 1909-S V.D.B. Lincoln Cent has been graded MS64RB by PCGS and is encapsulated in an old green label holder which is approximately twenty years old. The coin has also been certified by CAC as being solid for the assigned grade. The coin has strong luster and excellent color on both sides that is nearly full red, with just enough muting of the original mint color to require the RB color designation. The coin is free of any significant hits or marks and has superb eye appeal. A couple of minor discolorations on the reverse are all that I can find that may have prevented a gem grade as it is otherwise a worthy specimen. This is your opportunity to obtain a beautiful, near-gem example of the most famous of the key dates. |
