1942/1-D Mercury Dime PCGS XF45 |

Although not as strong of an overdate as the variety from the Philadelphia Mint, the 1942/1-D Mercury Dime is a very popular variety in the Mercury Dime series. The die for this coin was made by being pressed by the 1941-dated hub, then being pressed again by a 1942-dated hub, resulting the clear overdate variety on coins struck from that die. This 1942/1-D Mercury Dime has been graded XF45 by PCGS and is encapsulated in one of the newer-style edge-view holders. This coin was part of a complete collection of Mercury Dimes that was put together by a long-time collector of the series. The entire set of dimes was housed in an album and was recently graded by PCGS. This overdate dime has light circulation wear and just a few light marks on the image of Liberty that are of note. The coin is a medium grey color with some dirtiness in the more protected areas that give the piece a nice original look. The overdate variety is clear on this terrific example of this popular Mercury Dime overdate variety. |
