The 1942/1 Mercury Dime is one of the most recognizable overdates in all of coin collecting and is one of the key dates in the Mercury Dime series. The die for this coin was made by being pressed by the 1941-dated hub, then being pressed again by a 1942-dated hub, resulting the clear overdate variety on coins struck from that die. This 1942/1 Mercury Dime has been graded AU50 by PCGS and is encapsulated in one of the newer-style edge-view holders. This coin was part of a complete collection of Mercury Dimes that was put together by a long-time collector of the series. The entire set of dimes was housed in an album and was recently graded by PCGS. This overdate dime shows just a touch of circulation wear on the high points of the design. The coin is free of toning or other discoloration and has some of its original mint luster remaining. The strong overdate is very clear and instantly recognizable. A wonderful example of this popular Mercury Dime overdate variety. |
