1938-D Buffalo Nickel PCGS MS65 |

Here is a 1938-D Buffalo Nickel which has been graded MS65 by PCGS and has been encapsulated in an old green-label holder which is over twenty-five years old. The coin is bright white and lustrous on both sides and a solid gem example of the type. Only a couple of well hidden marks can be found under a close inspection on this beautiful nickel. More importantly, this coin is encapsulated in a relatively scarce PCGS holder which is referred to by many as the Generation 2.5 holder (and is cataloged as Generation 2.1 in the PCGS Museum of Coin Holders featured on their website) only produced for a very short time at the end of 1989. This version 2.5 holder is an older-style two-piece holder with an inner part that is similar to an old rattler style slab which is surrounded by an outer stacking ring. Note that the label of the Generation 2.5 holder has a perforated edge and “PCGS” centered at the top, unlike the Generation 2.0 holder which does not have “PCGS” at the top of the label. The holder itself is in good condition without no breaks and just a few minor inclusions in parts of the edge of the outer stacking ring. Overall, a wonderful gem Buffalo Nickel in the somewhat rare and short-lived PCGS holder. |
