1915 Panama-Pacific Expo CA State Dollar HK-415a PCGS MS63 |
$225 |
 |
The 1915 Panama-Pacific International Exposition was held in San Francisco, California to celebrate the opening of the Panama Canal. In addition to the coins and official medals of the Exposition which were produced by the United States Mint, many medals were made by others related to the PPIE, including medals commissioned by various States to help raise funds for their exhibits at the Exposition. This medal is the 1915 California Exposition State Dollar struck in gilt brass and is listed as HK-415a in the Hibler-Kappen book on So-Called Dollars. This example of the 1915 HK-415a medal has been graded MS63 by PCGS and is encapsulated in one of the newer-style edge-view holders. The obverse features an interpretation of the California State Seal with the female figure and bear with the rays in the background. The reverse shows the famous Tower of Jewels from the exposition. The medal has a bright golden color on both sides with semi-prooflike fields, particularly on the obverse. There are some minor marks and hairlines present which are appropriate for the assigned grade. An attractive medal from the 1915 Pan-Pac Expo. |
