1918 Illinois/Lincoln Half PCGS MS65 DOILY SOLD
1918 Illinois/Lincoln Half PCGS MS65 DOILY
Here is a 1918 Illinois Centennial Lincoln Commemorative Half Dollar which has been graded MS65 by PCGS and is housed in one of the very rare Doily label PCGS holders. This version of the PCGS holder was only used for a couple of weeks during late-1989 before it was quickly phased out. Accordingly, it has been reported that only a few hundred coins in this style of holder are known to exist today and they are highly sought after by collectors. When you are lucky enough to find a PCGS Doily style holder, it most often contains a Morgan Silver Dollar or a Mercury Dime. Other type coins are much much more difficult to find in these holders and finding certain types of the classic commemorative half dollars in a Doily holder can be extremely difficult. In the census of known examples of Doily label PCGS holders, this is the only example of the Illinois Lincoln half dollar to have been reported to exist in a Doily label holder. The coin itself is bright with strong cartwheel luster on both sides. Just a few toning spots on the reverse are of note. The piece is well struck and all of the details of this popular design show strongly. Just a few light marks can be found upon a close inspection and the coin appears to be a strong gem specimen. The two-piece Doily holder is in excellent condition with an outer stacking ring free of cracks and fully intact. It is always neat to find a classic commemorative in the old PCGS Doily label holder and this gem 1918 Illinois Centennial Lincoln Half Dollar is no exception.
