1883-CC Morgan Dollar PCGS MS63PL |

This 1883-CC Morgan Silver Dollar has been graded MS63PL by PCGS and has been encapsulated in an old green-label holder which is over twenty-five years old. The coin is bright white and lustrous on both sides with some light marks on the obverse in particular which seemingly limited the numerical grade of the coin. That said, the overall look of the coin is very strong for the conservative grade that was assigned. The fields of the coin are slightly reflective and the devices of the coin are frosty, resulting in the assignment of the prooflike designation. More importantly, this coin is encapsulated in a relatively scarce PCGS holder which is referred to by many as the Generation 3.5 holder (and is cataloged as Generation 2.2 in the PCGS Museum of Coin Holders featured on their website) only produced for a very short time at the end of 1989 and perhaps into early 1990. This version 3.5 holder is an older-style two-piece holder with an inner part that is similar to an old rattler style slab which is surrounded by an outer stacking ring. Note that the label of the Generation 3.5 holder has a smooth edge with color and font similar to the one-piece old green PCGS holders which followed. The holder itself is in excellent condition without no breaks and just a couple of minor inclusions in the outer stacking ring, but still about as good as you can find on these old and fragile holders. A terrific choice uncirculated Carson City Morgan Silver Dollar in the somewhat rare and short-lived PCGS holder. |
