1920-S US-Philippines Centavo PCGS AU58 |

This coin was minted at the San Francisco Mint for use in the Philippines which were a territory of the United States at the time. Because they were minted for use in a U.S. Territory, minted at the U.S. Mint in the United States and the coins say “United States of America” on them, many collectors are now starting to collect the U.S. Philippines coinage along with their U.S. coin collections. Even the Red Book of U.S. Coins has expanded their listing of USPI issues, see pages 415-419 of the 2015 edition. This 1920-S U.S.-Philippines One Centavo has been graded AU58 by PCGS. This is a somewhat better date one centavo that is difficult to find in higher grades. This example shows just a touch of circulation wear on the high points of the design and exhibits beautiful proof-like fields on both sides which does not show in the photos. The obverse has decent eye appeal with just a couple of minor spots in the lettering. The reverse shows a quite a bit more spotting in hand, even more than the photos show. Despite the spotting which stands out on the proof like fields, the coin is a nice example of the date and even shows a small amount of original mint red color in the protected areas. A near mint example of a tougher date One Centavo. |
