This 1897-S Morgan Silver Dollar has been graded MS65DMPL by PCGS. As the DMPL designation suggests, this coin is fully proof-like on both sides with deeply mirrored fields and frosty devices. Compared to other dates, DMPL examples of the 1897-S Morgan Dollar are quite a bit tougher than average date, particularly when you get to the higher grades. In fact, only ten (10) coins of this date with the DMPL designation have been graded higher at PCGS; two (2) coins at MS65+DMPL, seven (7) coins at MS66DMPL and a single MS67DMPL. The coin does have some light hits and marks scattered about, but nothing major and certainly well within what is expected at the MS65 grade. There is a small amount of light haze across parts of the mirrored surfaces, but again, it is not major, nor is it too distracting when viewed in hand. A wonderful overall gem example of this tougher DMPL Morgan Dollar. |
