| This (1859) Peter Stumps Chicago Fireman’s Helmet merchant token has been graded MS63 by NGC and is encapsulated in one of their newer-style edge-view holders. The token has been attributed as M-ILL-40 as indicated on the NGC label. The obverse shows a great design of a detailed firefighter’s helmet with the words Made to Order and Chicago, Ill. There are no significant marks or issues of note. This is a scarce token in all grades, but particularly in mint state. To date NGC has only graded three (3) examples at the MS63 grade with only a single example grading finer. In looking at other examples that have sold at auction, the piece offered here appears to be far superior to other examples in the same grade. |
