1956 Type 1 Proof Franklin Half NGC PF67 |

In 1956, there were two major varieties of Proof Franklin Half Dollars issued. The most noticeable difference is on the small eagle on the reverse. The Type 1 variety has an eagle with four narrow feathers to the left of the perch, the Type 2 variety has an eagle with three wider feathers to the left of the perch. Many experts feel the Type 1 variety is between 10 times and 20 times more scarce than the more common Type 2 variety. Here is a 1956 Type 1 Proof Franklin Half Dollar which has been graded PF67 by NGC and is encapsulated in one of the newer-style edge-view holders. The coin is untoned and a very flashy piece. This example is free of any noticeable marks or hits and exhibits wonderful overall eye appeal. A great example of the Type 1 1956 Proof Franklin Half. |
