1856-S $2.5 Liberty Gold NGC AU50
Here is an 1856-S $2.5 Liberty Gold Quarter Eagle which has been graded AU50 by NGC and is in an older style NGC "fatty" holder which is slightly thicker than the current style of holders. This is an excellent example of this somewhat scarce date with a mintage of only 72,120 coins. The coin here is well struck with strong mint luster that cartwheels around the coin. Some light circulation wear and some light marks are present, as expected with the assigned grade. A beautiful lightly circulated early San Francisco gold quarter eagle.
