The Flying Eagle Cent was the first design of small cents issued by the United States Mint. They are very popular among collectors and one of the few issues to feature an eagle on the obverse. This 1858/7 Flying Eagle Cent is the Strong variety of the popular overdate and has been graded AU55 by PCGS and is encapsulated in one of the newer-style edge-view holders. This is the very popular and scarce Snow-1 overdate which is also cataloged as FS-301 in the Cherrypicker’s Guide. A TrueView photo was taken by PCGS which captures the beauty of this coin in the best light. Of the many examples of this variety that I have seen, the pickup points of the die chip above the date, the broken wing tip and the underlying 7 in the date are exceptionally strong and quite easy to see. There is just the slightest touch of circulation wear on the high points of the eagle’s breast. The color of the coin is a very even chocolate brown color with no significant spotting or marks of note. An excellent lightly circulated example of this highly demanded Flying Eagle Cent overdate variety. |
