1838 Small Stars Seated Half Dime NGC MS61 |

This 1838 Small Stars Seated Liberty Half Dime has been graded MS61 by NGC and is encapsulated in one of their newer-style edge-view holders. The small stars variety of the Seated Liberty Half Dime is believed to have been caused by over polishing of the obverse die which reduced the apparent size of the stars. Some sources estimate that the small stars variety of this date is approximately ten times (10x) as rare as the normal larger stars variety. This coin is moderately toned with a dirty golden look. A good amount of mint luster peeks through the toning and gives the coin a very original look. Other than the dirty, crusty look to the coin, the coin appears to be free of any noticeable major issues and is a neat overall mint state example of this variety. |
