This 1942-S Mercury Dime has been graded MS66* by NGC and is encapsulated in one of the newer-style edge-view holders. The star designation is given by NGC to coins with exceptional eye appeal. This coin certainly has the requisite eye appeal to earn that star designation as it exhibits attractive colorful rainbow toning on both sides. The toning completely covers each side of the coin and concentrates in a vibrant band of rainbow toning at the rims. The coin also has very strong mint luster which helps those vibrant colors to come alive when viewed in hand. The coin has a decent strike, falling just short of having the fully split bands on the reverse needed for a FB designation. The beautiful rainbow color on both sides of this dime makes is a special coin that would be the star of most collections.
