In 1979, there were two major varieties of Proof Kennedy Half Dollars issued. The main difference is with the S mintmark. The Type 1 variety has a so-called “filled” S mintmark, while the Type 2 has a clear S mintmark. The Type 2 is the more scarce of the two varieties. This example of the 1979-S Type 2 Proof Kennedy Half Dollar has been graded PF70 Ultra Cameo by NGC and is encapsulated in one of the newer-style edge-view holders. The coin is untoned with deep black mirrors and frosty white devices. There are no noticeable marks, hits or other issues and as the PF70 grade suggests, the coin appears to be a perfect example as issued by the Mint. |
