Here is a beautiful example of an 1879-S Morgan Silver Dollar graded MS67 by NGC and is encapsulated in one of their newer-style edge-view holders. This coin is bright white and free of toning on the obverse, but the reverse has wonderful toning that covers about half of the reverse with rainbow color. The color is very bold and quite vibrant, particularly because the luster of the coin is also very strong and helps make the color pop when viewed in hand. Because of the strong luster and attractive reverse color, the overall eye appeal of this piece is above that of the typical MS67 Morgan Dollar. That said, there are several small hits and marks on the coin, particularly on the obverse, which certainly limit the grade of the coin to MS67, but are still appropriate for the assigned grade. The coin would be a great addition to any collection of Morgan Dollars or a nice type coin collection. |
