1936 Norfolk Half NGC MS67+ CAC SOLD
1936 Norfolk Half NGC MS67+ CAC
Although the Norfolk Bicentennial Half Dollars were not authorized by Congress nor minted until 1937, the coins bear the anniversary date of 1936 which commemorates the 200th anniversary of the establishment of the City of Norfolk as a borough and the 300th anniversary of the original Norfolk land grant. In total, the coin bears five different dates: 1636, 1682, 1736, 1845 and 1936, none of which are the date of coin’s minting. This example of the 1936 Norfolk Half Dollar has been graded MS67+ by NGC and is encapsulated in one of their newer-style edge-view holders. The coin has also been certified by CAC as being solid for the assigned grade. This coin has superb eye appeal. The coin has wonderful original tab toning which was caused by the style of original packaging the coins where shipped and apparently stored in for many years. The coin has great luster and only a couple of microscopic marks that can be found under magnification. The obverse toning which completely covers the coin is somewhat thicker and does mute the luster a little bit and could be the reason the coin did not grade even higher. One of the overall nicest Norfolk Half Dollars I have owned.
