1874-S Trade Dollar PCGS AU53 Chop Mark |
SOLD |
 |
From 1873 to 1885, the United States issued Trade Dollars for circulation in Asia to compete with other silver dollar sized coins produced by other countries. Trade Dollars contained slightly more silver weight than a normal silver dollar issued for circulation in the United States. This 1874-S Trade Dollar has been graded AU53 by PCGS and is encapsulated in one of the newer-style edge-view holders. The coin here was also counterstamped with a character known as a "chop mark" which is designated on the label and can be found at the lower-left wingtip of the eagle on the reverse of the coin. The coin exhibits decent mint luster on both sides and is mostly untoned. Some light wear is present on the high points of the coin and there are many scattered hits and small marks on each side, as you would expect from an AU53 graded coin. There is also some light hairlines in the open fields on both sides of the coin, but they are pretty consistent across the coin and not too distracting when viewed in hand. A decent looking lightly circulated Trade Dollar with an interesting chop mark. |
