Here is an 1899-P Australia Gold Sovereign with the St. George style reverse which has been graded MS61 by PCGS. The 1899-P Australia Sovereign is one of the key dates of the series and is always in high demand, particularly in mint state grades. This is a really nice example with a beautiful gold color and full original mint luster remaining. As the relatively low mint state grade suggests, there are many small marks and scuffs on both sides of the coin and on both the devices and the fields. The coin has decent eye appeal, however, as the gold is much brighter than the photos indicate and appears to be slightly toned as well along the rims of each side. The details of the coin, including the P mintmark, are very strongly struck and boldly defined. The coin is 91.7% pure gold and has a total actual gold weight of 0.2354 ounces. Overall, this coin is a terrific almost uncirculated example of this key date which goes up exponentially in price in higher grades. |
