The nine month long Franco-Prussian War came to a close on May 10, 1871 with the signing of the Treaty of Frankfurt. The thaler here was struck to commemorate the victory of Germany over the French. This 1871 Germany Bavaria Victory Thaler has been graded AU50 by PCGS and is encapsulated in the newer-style edge-view holder. At most angles, this coin is medium to dark grey in appearance. However, when tilted into a light just right, the prooflike surfaces of this thaler reflect a great deal of colorful toning as seen in the alternate shots I have provided. The piece is very well struck and exhibits light wear on the high points of each side. The fields have some minor marks and even a few light hairlines, but the coin is otherwise free of distractions. An attractive example of this popular commemorative issue. |
