1887 Liberty Nickel PCGS MS66 |

The 1887 Liberty Nickel is a relatively common date, but in ultra-high grades it is much less common. This 1887 Liberty Nickel has been graded MS66 by PCGS and is encapsulated in one of the newer-style edge-view holders. Only three (3) examples of this date have graded higher at PCGS, two (2) coins at MS66+ and a single example grading MS67. The coin exhibits amazing original mint luster that cartwheels across both sides of the coin. The coin is very well struck for the date which is practically impossible to find fully struck. Only a slight weakness in the right hand stars on the obverse and in the left corn in the reverse wreath is present. Note that all three examples grading higher at PCGS were imaged by PCGS for their CoinFacts service and all three coins also show some weakness in their strikes. Only a couple of tiny marks can be found on this coin under magnification and there is no spotting or other problems of note. You would have a tough time finding a better example of this date without spending five figures. A wonderful example of the type. |
