1723 Wood's Hibernia Halfpenny PCGS XF45 |

Here is a 1723 Wood’s Hibernia Halfpenny which has been graded XF45 by PCGS and encapsulated in one of the newer-style edge-view holders. This colonial coin has a very pleasing medium to dark brown color with no major spotting and decent planchet quality. The piece has light circulation wear and several small hits and marks which are consistent with the assigned grade, none of which are overly distracting. I believe this coin is attributed as Martin 4.93-Gc.35, in the Sydney Martin reference on the Hibernia Coinage of William Wood and is listed as a Rarity-4 die pairing. A quality example of this popular colonial type that appears to be above-average for the grade. |
