Friedrich Schiller was one of the most famous writers in German history. This 1859 Germany Hamburg Bronze Medal which commemorates Friedrich Schiller’s 100th Birthday has been graded MS65 by PCGS. The medal is wonderfully made with very high relief. In fact, the piece has such high relief that the highest point of the obverse (one of the leaves near the forehead) has actually pressed up against the inside of the PCGS holder and caused a minor crack in the plastic, though the holder is still intact and the medal appears undamaged. The medal has a nice even medium brown color when viewed at most angles, but when tilted into the light the slightly proof like fields of the piece show some green, blue and purple colors. No significant hits, marks or spotting is evident and it is unclear to me what may have limited the piece to the MS65 grade. A very impressive commemorative medal in gem condition.
Because of the difficulty in capturing the overall look of the coin in a single image, I have also included a short high-definition video of the coin towards the bottom of this listing in an attempt to give you a better idea of what this coin will look like in hand. Please note that you may need to adjust the video quality to 1080p and may need to increase the size of the video to full screen in order to see the coin in maximum detail.
