Here is a 1956 Type 2 Proof Franklin Half Dollar doubled die reverse (DDR) variety which is designated as FS-802 in the Cherrypickers' Guide. Although listed as a doubled die reverse, the coin has tripling most clearly seen on the eagle’s wing feathers and on the F of HALF and the first A of AMERICA. This 1956 Proof Franklin Half Dollar DDR FS-802 has been graded PR68 by PCGS and is encapsulated in a newer-style edge-view holder. The coin is an ultra high-end specimen with only a few light marks discernable under a very close inspection and just a couple of tiny milkspots that are barely noticeable. Otherwise, the coin appears to be perfect. To date, PCGS has attributed only five (5) examples of this variety in this grade with no coins grading higher. Please note that the photo of the coin came out fairly dark because of the highly reflective and flashy proof fields; it will look much better in hand. Here is your opportunity to obtain a very nice top pop example of this proof Franklin Half Dollar variety. |
