Here is an 1824-A France 40 Francs Gold piece which has been graded AU50 by NGC. The coin is composed of .900 fine gold and contains .3734 oz. AGW (actual gold weight). As is the case with many larger French gold coins of this era, the mintage of the 1824-A 40 Francs is relatively low with only 50,000 coins struck. Undoubtedly, many of those coins have been lost or melted down over the years and of the survivors, not a great deal of them survive in AU condition. The coin shows only slight wear with nearly all of the original detail of the coin remaining. The coin is a light gold color and a good amount of original mint luster is present. Other than a few minor hits at the rims, the piece has no significant issues to note. A very nice lightly circulated early 19th Century French gold piece. |
