Lincoln Memorial Cent Obverse Struck Thru Capped Die Error NGC MS64RB SOLD
Lincoln Memorial Cent Obverse Struck Thru Capped Die Error NGC MS64RB
Here is a very dramatic undated Lincoln Memorial Cent mint error. This is a Lincoln Memorial Cent in which the obverse was struck by a capped die. This Struck Thru Capped Die Mint Error has been graded MS64RB by NGC and is encapsulated in a newer-style edge-view holder. Minting errors of this type begin when a coin sticks to the obverse die in the press. Because there is a coin stuck to the obverse die, the obverse image of Lincoln cannot be pressed onto subsequent coins which are fed into the press. Instead a mirror image of the reverse of the stuck coin is pressed into the obverse of the next coins. As that stuck die cap coin continues to strike coins, the coin stretches out and distorts that reverse image which is pressed onto the obverse of those coins that follow. This is an excellent example of this type of error coin with excellent details and a bit of colorful toning as well.
