1486 Austria Guldiner NGC MS67 1953 Silver Restrike SOLD
1486 Austria Guldiner NGC MS67 1953 Silver Restrike
This is the 1953 restrike of a 1486 Austria Guldiner which was the first taler silver dollar sized coin of regular issue and is sometimes referred to as the great-grandfather of the crown sized silver coins later issued by countries throughout the World. The coin is 40.1 mm in diameter, is made of .900 fine silver and is cataloged in the Krause Publications Guide to Unusual World Coins as X #M28. This example of the 1953 restrike of the 1486 Austria Guldiner has been graded MS67 by NGC and is encapsulated in one of the newer-style edge-view holders. The coin is moderately toned on both sides with an original looking medium grey color. The coin has strong original luster and there are no significant marks, hits or other distractions of note. The obverse of the coin is the crowned Arch Duke Sigismund of Tyrol standing facing with sword and scepter, lion with shield at left, helmet at right, the restrike date of 1953 is at the base of the obverse. The reverse features a knight with banner riding a horse surrounded with 14 shields with the 1486 date below. The inscription “1. TIROLER TALER ~ A 900 ~ ~ ~ 1303 ~ 1953 HALL IM INNTAL ~ ~ ~” is marked on the edge of the coin. Only nine (9) examples of this coin have been graded MS67 by NGC with no examples grading higher. A beautiful top pop example of this very popular restrike.

Because of the difficulty in capturing the overall look of the coin in a single image, I have also included a short high-definition video of the coin towards the bottom of this listing in an attempt to give you a better idea of what this coin will look like in hand. Please note that you may need to adjust the video quality to 1080p and may need to increase the size of the video to full screen in order to see the coin in maximum detail.
