The so-called 1882 Penn’s House and City Hall Dollar was produced for the 1882 bicentennial celebration of the founding of Pennsylvania. The white metal version of the Penn’s House and City Hall Dollar is listed as HK-140 in the Hibler-Kappen reference on So-Called Dollars. This example of the 1882 HK-140 medal has been graded MS64DPL by NGC and is encapsulated in a newer-style edge-view holder. This is an amazing medal with a high relief portrait of William Penn on the obverse and a very detailed depiction of Penn’s House and City Hall on the reverse. The medal is bright white, free of toning and has deep dark mirrored fields with bright frosty devices. Just a couple of light marks can be found under a close inspection and the piece looks to be very strong for the assigned grade. This piece is one of only two (2) examples of the HK-140 to have been graded MS64DPL by NGC with no examples having been graded finer. A beautiful top pop example of this detailed so-called dollar. |
