1936 Elgin Half PCGS MS67+ CAC |
SOLD |
|
The proceeds of the sale of the Elgin Centennial Commemorative Half Dollars were to be used to erect a Pioneer Memorial Sculpture in Elgin, Illinois. The base of the Memorial had been poured as of 1934, but sales of the coins failed to raise enough money to complete the Memorial. In fact, the Pioneer Memorial was not completed until November 2001! This example of the 1936 Elgin Centennial Commemorative Half Dollar has been graded MS67+ by PCGS and is encapsulated in one of the newer-style edge-view holders. The coin has also been certified by CAC as being solid for the assigned grade. A TrueView photo was taken by PCGS which captures the beauty of this coin in the best light. This coin is bright white and extremely lustrous. The coin radiates with cartwheel luster and coin almost seems to sparkle when rotated under the light. Just a couple of small marks can be found on the coin, keeping the coin from absolute perfection. This is one of only thirteen (13) examples of the Elgin half dollar which have been graded MS67+ by PCGS with only five (5) examples grading higher, four (4) at MS68 and a single MS68+. The examples that grade higher run well into the five figures for each coin! A stunning Elgin half dollar that is just about as good as it gets for the issue. |
