This medal, designed by George Lovett, was issued to celebrate the centennial of George Washington’s inauguration as President of the United States. Because of the detailed image of the Brooklyn Bridge on the reverse side, the medal is often referred as the Brooklyn Bridge Medal. This 1889 Washington Centennial Brooklyn Bridge Medal has been graded MS63PL by NGC. The piece is cataloged as Douglas-7A as mentioned on the NGC label. Because of the approximate 51mm diameter of this medal, the medal has been encapsulated in a large-sized NGC holder. The medal has strong mirrored surfaces and the devices are well struck and frosty in appearance. There are many small marks and hairlines, particularly in the smooth prooflike fields, though none seem to be overly distracting. A beautiful prooflike choice uncirculated example of the 1889 Brooklyn Bridge Medal. |
