Barber Quarter collectors are all familiar with the big three key date coins of the series; the 1896-S, the 1901-S and the 1913-S. When looking at the other tougher dates beyond the big three, many collectors will agree that the 1909-O Barber Quarter is one of the toughest to find, particularly in higher grades. Here is a 1909-O Barber Quarter which has been graded MS65 by PCGS. This gem graded example is one of the finest examples of the date that is available. To date, PCGS has graded only three (3) examples of the 1909-O quarter in MS65 condition with only five (5) examples grading higher, all at the MS66 grade. The coin is moderately toned on both sides with light green color and touches of more golden color at the rims. A few light marks are found under a close inspection, but nothing major or distracting. The luster is strong and the strike is quite strong compared to others of the date. The 1909-O Barber Quarter is much tougher than many collectors realize and because of that the values of this date have increased substantially in recent years. Because of the high collector demand for this date, in just about any grade, the 1909-O quarter often trades at significant premiums to just about any price guide out there. An amazing gem example of the 1909-O Barber Quarter that is not available on the market too frequently. |
