1909 Indian Head Cent PCGS MS66RD |
SOLD |
 |
Although the 1909 Indian Head Cent is widely available in gem condition, the final year Indian Head Cent from Philadelphia becomes much scarcer at the MS66RD level. This 1909 Indian Head Cent has been graded MS66RD by PCGS and is encapsulated in one of the newer-style edge-view holders. Only a handful of this date have graded higher at PCGS, with eight (8) coins grading MS66+RD and five (5) coins grading MS67RD. The coin is full bright red (technically more of a straw-gold color as is typical of the date) and quite lustrous as you would expect on an Indian Cent of this grade. The planchet does have a bit of streakiness, but this coin is certainly 100% red and that streakiness is much less noticeable in hand than shown in the photo. Even under magnification, the only real mark I can find is a small hit on the O of ONE on the reverse. Only a few minor carbon spots on the obverse near the date and last A of AMERICA keep the coin from being absolutely perfect. An overall excellent example of the type and a popular final-year issue as well. |
