Here is a spectacular looking 1562 Great Britain Star Sixpence which has been graded VF25 by PCGS. This milled coin with the star mint mark was struck in the Tower of London by the Royal Mint and is one of the earliest British coins with a date. The obverse features the image of Elizabeth I with a rose in the field just behind her hair. The reverse features a nicely detailed shield with the arms of France and England. Despite the moderate wear on each side of the design, the details of the coin are clear and strong. Both sides of the coin have attractive rainbow rim toning which is quite beautiful. The coin has wonderful luster and tremendous eye appeal; much better than the relatively low numerical grade would typically suggest. An amazing example of the Elizabeth I milled sixpence. |
