The 1911-D $2.5 Indian Gold Quarter Eagle is the key date of the series with a low mintage of only 55,600 coins. Not only is this issue the key date of the series, but it is also one of the big key dates in all of United States coin collecting. Of the low mintage, some of the coins of this date have a very weak and difficult to see mintmark which makes those examples considerably less desirable. Examples with bold and clearly struck mintmarks are sought after and command a premium. This 1911-D $2.5 Indian Gold Quarter Eagle has been graded AU58 by NGC. The example offered here has a boldly struck and clear mintmark which is what you want to see when purchasing this key date. The coin has an even light gold color with nice mint luster. The details of this popular incuse design show well and there is just a touch of wear evident on the highest points of the design. An overall excellent example of this popular key date gold issue.
Because of the difficulty in capturing the overall look of the coin in a single image, I have also included a short high-definition video of the coin towards the bottom of this listing in an attempt to give you a better idea of what this coin will look like in hand. Please note that you may need to adjust the video quality to 1080p and may need to increase the size of the video to full screen in order to see the coin in maximum detail. |
