1934 Maryland Half PCGS MS65 CAC |

The 1934 Maryland Tercentenary Commemorative Half Dollar features the image of Cecil Calvert, also known as Lord Baltimore. However, many experts believe that image may not actually be of Calvert as it was based on a painting that showed an individual wearing a Puritan collar even though Calvert was a Catholic. In any event, this example of the 1934 Maryland Commemorative Half Dollar has been graded MS65 by PCGS. The coin has also been certified by CAC as being solid for the assigned grade. This is one of the most attractive Maryland Half Dollars I have dealt with. Both sides of the coin are attractively toned and very lustrous. The obverse is moderately toned in a mostly light grey and lilac color which deepens with more vibrant color near the rims. The reverse is untoned in the center but has amazing looking rainbow toning around the rim. A few light marks on the high points of the design seemingly limited the grade to MS65, but they are hardly noticed with the amazing color of this piece. A stunning example of the Maryland Commemorative Half Dollar. |
