This is one of the coolest looking Morgan Silver Dollars that I have had in quite awhile. This is an 1878-S Morgan Dollar graded MS64 by NGC. The coin was amazingly difficult to image. The obverse of the coin is completely covered in a very colorful speckled toning that includes all of the colors of the rainbow. The obverse fields are also proof-like so that when you shine the coin into the light, all of those colors immediately come to life and it's just stunning. Though it's difficult to notice through the toning, there are a couple of decent hits on Liberty's chin which limit the technical grade of the coin, but they really don't affect the eye appeal. The reverse of the coin is mostly white, but even the areas appearing white really have a light golden tone to them. A crescent of rainbow color is found near the left hand side of the reverse. A few decent hits are noticed to the right of the eagle's head as well. Overall, this first year of issue Morgan Dollar is awesome!
Because of the difficulty in capturing the overall look of the coin in a single image, I have also included a short high-definition video of the coin towards the bottom of this listing in an attempt to give you a better idea of what this coin will look like in hand. Please note that you may need to adjust the video quality to 1080p and may need to increase the size of the video to full screen in order to see the coin in maximum detail. |
