1972 Munich Summer Olympics .9999 Gold Medal Token 7.9 grams SOLD
1972 Munich Summer Olympics .9999 Gold Medal Token 7.9 gram Quarter Ounce
Here is a really neat and fairly rare gold medal token from the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich. The medal is composed of .9999 pure gold; the fineness is marked on the piece just to the right of the Olympic rings on the reverse. The weight of the medal is 7.9 grams, which is just over a quarter of a troy ounce of pure gold. The medal is a very nice even gold color and the coin has a very strong prooflike appearance. The obverse features a discus thrower and the reverse shows a wonderfully detailed view of Munich. The medal is in very nice condition with some light hairlines and handling marks in the mirrored fields. In my searches, I have found only one similarly designed piece that has been available and it was a larger piece that weighed nearly an ounce. A beautifully done and relatively rare souvenir from the 1972 Olympics.
