1886 Springfield, MA 250th Anniversary HK-609 NGC MS64DPL |

Here is a white metal piece issued in 1886 for the 250th Anniversary of Springfield, Massachusetts which is listed as HK-609 in the Hibler-Kappen book on So-Called Dollars and has been graded MS64DPL
by NGC. The obverse of this piece is strongly struck and shows the intricate details of the city seal very well. The open fields of the reverse reveal some minor marks and some breaks in the deep mirrored fields which show as a light haze in some areas. There is no toning present on this bright white medal and it has great overall eye appeal. This is one of only two (2) examples of the HK-609 to be given the deep mirror prooflike designation by NGC, both of which graded MS64DPL. One of the best, and maybe the very best known example of this so-called dollar. |
