1918-S U.S.-Philippines Five Centavos Mule Reverse of
20c Allen 4.08b |
SOLD |
 |
One of the most popular varieties in all of U.S.-Philippines coinage is the 1918-S Five Centavos Allen 4.08b Mule with the obverse of a five centavos and the reverse (shield and eagle) of a twenty centavos. Because of their similar sizes, the dies of the 5c and 20c were inadvertently mismatched leading to the production of this popular mule variety. The example offered here has moderate circulation wear, but the details of the coin are all identifiable, especially the small date and mintmark which is one of the primary identifying characteristics of the mule variety. The planchet is somewhat streaky and there are a few areas of delamination as you can see in the photos. A rare example of this popular U.S.-Philippines mule variety. |
