1909 Abraham Lincoln Reunion Medal Silver-plated Bronze King-783 |
$475 |
 |
This is an amazing 1909 Abraham Lincoln Reunion Medal engraved by Henning Ryden and struck by C.H. Hanson of Chicago. The medal is 2.5 inches in diameter and about 1/4 inches thick and is made of silver-plated bronze. The silver plating is very thick and only worn through in a couple of the highest points of the design. This piece is cataloged as King-783 in the reference Lincoln in Numismatics by Robert P. King. There is a wonderful attractive medium dark patina across the medal with some colorful toning on the silvered surfaces when looking on a close inspection. The obverse design features a beardless 3/4 bust of a younger Abraham Lincoln. The reverse design features two figures holding hands, a nude male and a half nude female, which some sources say represent the North and South. The male figure, which appears to also be Abraham Lincoln, is also holding the United States Flag with a cannon and the Capitol building behind. The medal has only light wear on the highest points of the design and a few light scratches are of note. There are also some light scratches over the engraver and manufacturer names in the obverse field where someone may have tried to remove the names at one time. The scratches are light however and the names are still legible. An overall interesting Lincoln Medal that is not often seen. |
