1909-S Indian Head Cent NGC MS65BN CAC |

The 1909-S Indian Head Cent has the lowest mintage of any coin in the entire Indian Head Cent series. To find another business strike cent with a mintage lower than this date you would have to look all the way back to 1811 (excluding the 1856 Flying Eagle Cent). Accordingly, the 1909-S Indian Head Cent is indeed a major key-date. Though the two issues are currently priced similarly, the 1909-S Indian Head Cent is much scarcer than the more popular 1909-S V.D.B. Lincoln Cent. This example of the 1909-S Indian Head Cent has been graded MS65BN by NGC. The coin has also been certified by CAC as being solid for the assigned grade. This is a beautiful coin for the grade. Although designated with the BN color designation, this coin has tons of original red color remaining, much more so than many RB designated Indian Cents I have owned. The coin has so much original red remaining, if I still own this coin at the next Long Beach show I will probably resubmit the coin for reconsideration of the grade. The coin has nice original luster and no significant spotting. There is a slight woodgrain effect in the red-brown toning that gives the coin a neat overall look. A few scuffs in the plastic holder show up in the photos as blurry spots, but the coin itself is not affected. I have also included a short high-definition video of the coin in an attempt to give you a better idea of what this coin will look like in hand. Please note that you may need to adjust the video quality to 1080p and may need to increase the size of the video to full screen in order to see the coin in maximum detail. This is an amazing gem example of this popular key date. |
