The 1943-P Doubled Die Obverse Jefferson Nickel is one of the strongest doubled dies in the entire Jefferson Nickel series and is one of the most popular varieties of the type. Also referred to as the 1943-P “doubled-eye” nickel, as it is listed in the Red Book, the coin has very strong doubling on Jefferson’s eye as well as in most of the lettering and the date. This example of the 1943-P Doubled Die Obverse Jefferson Nickel has been graded MS66 at PCGS. The coin is also attributed as the DDO variety on the PCGS label and is the FS-106 variety as listed in the Cherrypicker's Guide. It is also neat to have such a strong variety on the silver World War II wartime metal composition. The example offered here is very lustrous with extremely flashy surfaces. The strike is also quite strong, but falling just short of earning the full-steps (FS) designation. Several small marks and hits are found on both sides of the coin, but nothing major. A very nice high-grade example of this popular Jefferson Nickel variety. |
