1942 Proof Mercury Dime PCGS PR66 CAC SOLD
1942 Proof Mercury Dime PCGS PR66 CAC
The Mercury Dime is one of the most popular coin designs of the Twentieth Century. When struck as a proof, the Mercury Dime design comes to life and shows the beauty to it's fullest extent. This example of the 1942 Proof Mercury Dime has been graded PR66 by PCGS. The coin has also been certified by CAC as being solid for the assigned grade. This is a very beautiful proof dime with deep black mirrors on both sides and bright frosted devices that show light cameo contrast, but not quite enough to earn the rare cameo designation from PCGS. In fact, only a single 1942 Proof Mercury Dime has ever been certified with the cameo designation (a lone PR66CAM) and it's value is around ten times the asking price of this piece. The plastic holder of this coin has several small marks which unfortunately show in the photos, but the coin itself has no noticeable marks or issues. Finding a coin like the present example that shows some decent cameo frost without the actual cameo designation can be a relative bargain.
