Here is a 1718 Great Britain 1/4 Guinea gold
coin which has been graded MS61 by PCGS. This small gold coin with the bust of George I was only issued for one year and was reportedly unpopular at the time given its small size. Both sides of the coin have strong detail, particularly the reverse with the four shields and four scepters in the form of a cross. The coin has a nice bright golden color with strong original mint luster, particularly on the reverse. The obverse luster is muted somewhat and is slightly hazy, likely limiting the grade of the coin. Although light handling marks are present under a close inspection, there are no major hits, marks or other distractions. A nice mint state example of this popular one-year type coin. |
