Here is an 1868 $10 Liberty Gold Eagle which has been graded XF40 by NGC and is in an older style NGC "fatty" holder which is slightly thicker than the current style of holders. This example shows light circulation wear on the high points of the design and many small marks from circulation in the open fields, but none of which are overly distracting. The coin does have a slightly dark appearance to it, though the original mint luster of the coin does pop through. With a mintage of only 10,630 coins, the 1868 gold eagle is rare in any grade and this is a pleasing overall example. |
